Ask the Accountant…
Question: I like QuickBooks Premier, but I would like to be able to use it when out of the office. Is there a way to do that?
Answer: Yes, there are several ways to work remotely with QB Premier. One is using a remote viewer software, like LogMeIn or TeamViewer, where you can remotely log into the PC where your QB Premier (or other QB Desktop products) is loaded.
Another way used by many of my clients is to have a PC in your office set up as a server with your QB Premier loaded there. You and your users can then log into your server remotely.
Finally, you can have your QB hosted by a cloud service such as Right Networks, which is recommended by QuickBooks. This becomes problematic, however, if you are integrating with another system such as SAGE or ASI. Right Networks does not have a means to connect to their systems. There are also additional, on-going expenses involved with a cloud service.
Determine how you want your system to look and work, including the costs, when deciding which approach to take when establishing remote access.
